Welcome to Innerspace Counselling & Psychotherapy
Offering a one to one counselling service in Bray & Arklow, Co. Wicklow
If you are in intense or long-term emotional pain, you may feel exhausted, distressed and hopeless about the future - perhaps while trying to convince the world that all is well. This is not a place anyone wants to be, yet many people feel this way and can't find the way forward alone, or even with the help of friends and family. These feelings can be triggered by a recent event or something that happened long ago; you may have no idea what led to them.
Despite the problems you face, you should not have to live a life of intolerable pain. It is not healthy to feel this way, and you deserve the help you need to start feeling better.
Counselling can offer you a safe and confidential space where you will be listened to without judgement as you begin to put your feelings into words. Through our work, you will be supported as you unravel your distressing and painful feelings, having a chance to understand what has caused them and how to to decrease your pain. You will have an opportunity to find new ways to approach the problems you face and work towards a more peaceful way of living life.
Depression
When you're depressed, nothing feels good, and there is no joy in life. Every task is exhausting and overwhelming, it can feel like climbing a mountain. You may stop sleeping & eating properly, have problems concentrating, feel no pleasure in seeing friends or doing the things you used to enjoy and perhaps you are drinking more than usual. You are in a deep, dark hole, with no escape - you may feel as if you are losing your mind. These feelings do not have to be a permanent part of your life. If you feel this way, you need help and support to step out of this dark place. The journey can begin by coming to counselling, where I will listen without without judgement as you explore the difficulties you are experiencing. You will have the chance to get a better perspective on what is happening and find new ways to manage in life. You will have the chance to develop new insights, skills & behaviours which (along with medication where appropriate) - can open doors to enjoying and living life again.
| Anxiety
Anxiety and panic can cause misery and stop you leading a normal life. You may be experiencing anxiety as terrifying panic attacks with racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea and a wish to escape at all costs, or it might mean you are constantly worrying about every aspect of life, controlled by fear. For anxiety to do its job properly, without ruining lives, it needs to be managed. Having uncontrolled, inhibiting levels of anxiety should not be a part of your life. In counselling you will experience a safe space where you will have a chance to get the support and guidance you need as you learn to better manage your anxiety. At your own pace you will have the opportunity to learn about what causes your symptoms and develop skills such as controlled breathing, mindfulness and relaxation, which can gradually give you control over the level of anxiety you experience and begin to make life more manageable. | Special Needs
Living with a special need can be a very challenging struggle. Unless experienced it is difficult to understand the complexity of feelings involved. If you have a condition such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Sensory Processing Disorder, ASD/Aspergers Syndrome you will know the day to day strain placed on your mental health simply by living in a world that does not understand or take into consideration how you function best. This is especially true for young people still in school or college, as they work along side peers who do are not carrying these invisible disabilities. For the extended family there is also the strain of feeling powerless while seeing their loved one struggle through painful challenges. Parents in particular face the enormous strains caused by the demands of fighting for the resources and supports their child needs. Counselling can be of support to both those affected and the wider family. Here you will find a safe space to speak honestly and openly without judgement and new tools to assist with with managing the situation more effectively. |
